The New Firehouse Project is progressing well despite the extra challenges presented by the coronavirus lockdown.

The Board of Fire Commissioners wishes to express condolences to the family of our longtime project team member Barry Naderman. Following Barry’s sudden passing, we have engaged local engineering consulting firm Kellard Sessions to assume our site engineering design for the duration of the project.

Design of the building itself is on schedule and will soon enter the construction document phase, to prepare to go out to bid for construction services. Our New Firehouse Committee and our professional team continue to value engineer each aspect of the project.

To continue to prepare for the issuance of the approved bond as the pandemic continues to affect the economy, we are working closely with our financial advisor, monitoring interest rates and projections and discussing various ways to approach the structure of the bond when the time comes.

If you have driven by 550 Old Post Road, you may have noticed that there is new tape marking certain trees. One of our firefighters is a horticulturist and two of our members are on the Town of Bedford Tree Advisory Board. We understand the importance of protecting and promoting native species on our property. Much of the native vegetation on our land has been choked out by invasive species and vines, but we are committed to saving the native trees we can, and will plant only native species on the property after construction.
